About
I hold a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee. I also have an M.M. in Musicology, and a B.M. in Music Theory.
In my academic work, I specialize in metaphysics and philosophy of action with additional interests in philosophy of mind, ethical realism, and bioethics. Within these fields, my primary research focuses on the nature of action and agency, free will, and emergent theories of mind. I enjoy teaching philosophy to beginning students, especially those who are pursuing non-philosophy degrees as I did in undergrad. In particular, I'm passionate about making philosophical exploration, whether for beginning or advanced students, an intensely personal endeavor that productively challenges beliefs about our place in the world. Beyond academia, I have served in a volunteer capacity for several non-profits and para-university organizations. I enjoy mediating conversations, information exchange, and conflict resolution. In these situations, I use my philosophical training to help reach understanding between parties; as well as ask questions that help promote creative thinking, explore possible short term and long term impacts, and keep an eye on our ethical obligations to all stakeholders. |
